Procedures you need to go through in the state of Texas. First of all let's answer the actual question of what is an unassisted childbirth? Unassisted childbirth is where a mother delivers her child at home without any medical assistance or sometimes even without any assistance at all from anyone, including family members. Most of the time this even means not taking the newborn child to the hospital after its birth. Unassisted childbirth has been practiced for many years and most people are just now getting to know how to get everything you need to do one, especially in the state of Texas.
What do you need to do an unassisted childbirth in the state of Texas ?
In order to have an unassisted childbirth in Texas you have to go through several steps with your hospital/ birthing center (if you are going to one), city and county, and also with your place of residency. All these steps are very easy and can be completed within a couple of weeks, if not sooner.
What is the process of preparing for a unassisted childbirth in Texas ?
1. Make sure if you are getting any kind of prenatal care at a hospital or birthing center that you tell your doctor/ midwife that you will be doing a unassisted childbirth. They may be able to give you some advice on delivery. Also, you don’t want them thinking that you are going to deliver there and then you never show up. Make sure you tell them the reasons you want to do a UC, because they might think they have done something wrong and you do not want them to deliver your child and in most cases this is not true.
2. Either before or after the baby is born make sure to register your home birth with the city. This entails going to the county clerk's office and answering very detailed questions, such as last menstrual period, and any questions about doctors visits that you might have had. Expect to pay about eleven dollars for the registering of your home birth. Just a note, you do not get a copy of this registery. It is filed with the state.
3. Make sure to take note if it is going to be a problem or not to deliver at your place of residency. Some places, such as military bases have strict requirements on whether or not you can do a UC. Apartment complexes might also have some objections to this. Just make sure to check so you do not end up breaking any rules.
4. After the baby is born, you will want to get a birth certificate. For this you will need several things. One, you will have to go to a notorary (usually located at your nearest bank) and have a friend who saw you during your pregnancy write a statement saying that she saw you pregnant. The person who delivered you and either you, or if you had a doctor, will also have to write a statement. The person who delivered you will have to state the address, and time the baby was born at. They also have to state the sex of the baby. You have to write a statement saying you had no prenatal care or your doctor has to write one saying that you did receive prenatal care. Secondly, remember to take your ID and a bill securing your place of residency when you go to get your birth certificate. Thirdly, go down to the county clerks office and fill out some paperwork stating your name and address and answering some other questions about your own birth place, pay another eleven dollars, and receive you baby’s birth certificate.
These are all the steps you will have to go through to prepare for an unassisted childbirth in the state of Texas. There should be no other unexpected delays in doing your unassisted childbirth if you follow these easy four steps. So, now you are ready for your own UC.
