Most women develop a glow while they are pregnant and many people attribute that glow to living well. Most women who are expecting a child realize that they will need a new style of eating that is nutritious for both the parent and the child. The glow that radiates on the surface of the skin is due to an influx in blood pressure and the vitamins and supplements that are taken during pregnancy.
Some women feel safer by taking prenatal vitamins during their pregnancy. Not all of the health benefits of vitamins and minerals are known, and physicians prescribe some of them separately from a prenatal vitamin just to be on the safe side. Every pregnancy is different and the anatomy of each woman is different too. The nutritional requirements of women will vary because some women are in better physical condition than other women are at the onset of their pregnancy.
Some women plan to become pregnant and make sure that their diets are rich in nutrients and low in fat. They realize that their bodies will change over the course of nine months and that they need to prepare it to do the job that it will be challenged to do. A woman might take vitamins everyday just to ensure that their body has the tools on hand to fight off infection, and give a baby a safer environment to live in.
Women will begin taking prenatal vitamins during the first three months of pregnancy and some might continue taking the vitamins and supplements found in prenatal vitamins for months afterward, and this is especially true if the woman plans to breastfeed her child. Most women might not be aware though that all prenatal vitamins do not contain the same dosages of the vitamins and supplements that they will need during pregnancy.
Babies will consume a large quantity of calcium from their mother's body during the pregnancy. On the average, a woman will need between 1200 mgs to 1500 mgs of calcium everyday. Prenatal vitamins fall short on this requirement because they typically will contain a dosage of 250 mg of calcium, and a woman must supplement her diet with calcium-enriched products such as yogurt, milk, or puddings made from whole milk products.
Women should reap the health benefits of vitamins and minerals while pregnant because their bodies are forming a child. A child would benefit from a vitamin supplement like folic acid because it has properties that will help ward off any birth defects during the pregnancy. A woman who experiences morning sickness will also have to recognize the need to replenish vitamins and supplements after the sickness has passed
